Against the backdrop of a recent upsurge in violent crime, leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM), Therold Prudent, has asserted that the country has to find a way out of ‘this mess’ in 2019.
“When murder, rape and other deviant criminal behaviours are no longer alarming or repulsive to the St Lucian conscience, it is very safe to say that Nou Tombre Bien Ba,” Prudent wrote.
While observing that the country needs to find a way out of the situation next year, the LPM leader expressed the view that otherwise ” we all, through our continued silence, can count ourselves as accepting of the ongoing comploo, both officially or unofficially, which allows criminals to overrun our country forever.”
Police statistics indicate that so far for 2018, there have been 42 homicides.
A recent upsurge in gun related violence in the city prompted Police Commissioner, Severin Moncherry, to recall officers from vacation leave to put more boots on the ground.
In the past few weeks there has been a noticeable presence of armed police in the capital, especially along Chaussee Road where some of the gun violence has taken place.
