“RAISE A READER SLU®” kicks off, with another Book Drive

PRESS RELEASE: (For immediate release) – Celestial Self Development Centre Library asks for your support in promoting early childhood reading for Castries area preschools, by making age-appropriate books available through its “Raise A Reader SLU®” book drive, which runs through the entire month of May which is designated as reading month here in Saint Lucia. “Raise A Reader SLU® campaign was first launched by the company in January 2013. During the first year of the campaign book donations were made to eight pre-schools in the Sans Souci and surrounding area. In 2014 books were donated to the Holy Family Children’s Home in Ciceron on behalf of the winner of the 2014“Summer Reading Challenge”, Mr. Dave Charles. In 2015 the campaign donated books and also partnered with Saint Lucian born author Lovely Sheridan and hosted a Story Time session with students attending the Canon Laurie Anglican Infant School.

We are encouraging donations from the general public and corporate citizens. This year’s campaign was officially launched on March 22nd 2018 as part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, with a donation of books to preschoolers at the Heritage Early Childhood Development and Educational Center (H.E.C.D.E.C.) located at Peart’s Gap.

Individuals or organizations who make donations will receive special acknowledgement of donations on our website, Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn accounts as well as an opportunity for free library membership for a year. Just bring us your new and gently used books and drop them off at our book drive collection box here at our offices.

Books should be for infants and children ages Two (2) years through to five (5) years and be in good condition, without torn pages or writing in them. Please no magazines, textbooks or coloring books.
