Relatives of a Fond St Jacques, Soufriere, resident who died during the passage of Hurricane Elsa say they are trying to cope with the tragic death of a man whom they described as a hardworking farmer and mason.
Peter Victor, 58, died as Hurricane Elsa pummelled Saint Lucia on Friday with heavy rain and wind, tore off roofs, felled trees and utility poles and triggered flooding and landslides in several parts of the country.
Reports from his community say he died when the house in which he lived alone collapsed.
A family member told St Lucia Times that the death of the father of four and grandfather of three was totally unexpected.
According to the family members, some neighbours found Victor who was rushed to the Soufriere Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“It was an unexpected situation, so it’s hard,” the relative explained.
“Nobody was really expecting that.”
“He has lived there all his life. I guess he wasn’t expecting it to be so bad,” the family member stated.
