Press Release:-Castries, Saint Lucia, Thursday October 20th, 2016 Trinity Lutheran Church is celebrating their 25th anniversary this Sunday in Beautiful Bisee at 9:00 AM. A luncheon is to follow at 1:00 PM. The Lutheran church was begun 25 years ago after the faithful work of several long serving doctors in St. Lucia.
Dr. Fleming Sallapudi, and Dr. Suri Kollapara moved to St. Lucia after working in Antigua. Dr. Jacob and Grecilda Gogumalla as well as Dr. Raju and Rebecca Kunavarapu made up the core group. They were served at that time by St. John’s Lutheran Church in Antigua.
In 1990, ground work was laid by Pastor Wobeck. In 1991, the first service was held in St Lucia. Pastor Joel Jeager was called to serve shortly thereafter. Mr. Erik Landwehr was called to serve the youth of the community. Trinity Lutheran Church has operated a study Centre in La Clery, vacation Bible schools two to three times a year, as well as Christian worship services and Bible classes. Four years ago, Trinity bought a piece of land in Bisee and built a facility to house a preschool and church. The congregation has grown to over 175 members.
Currently, the church is served by Evodia Cassius as the preschool director, Toosheena Singh and Sabina Immanuel as preschool teachers, Ravi Singh as staff minister and Pastor Bramdeo Ramgolam as the congregational pastor. Pastor Tom Spiegelberg serves as the administrative pastor.
Trinity Lutheran Church is a protestant Christian church located in beautiful Bisee. Trinity worships at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings followed by adult and youth Bible class. Trinity Lutheran runs TLC Early Childhood Development Centre, a preschool for children ages 2 ½ to 5 as well as youth programs and prayer meetings.
The Lutheran branch of Protestantism is the oldest Protestant church body in the world today. It is a confessional Bible based church accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. It is based on the principles of Martin Luther, a German monk and professor who has been called the “Father of the Reformation.”
It is interesting to note that Martin Luther opposed the designation of his name for the religion. Luther struggled with the contradictions he saw between the Bible and some of the practices of the Catholic church. He fought to reform the church by exposing its corruption and abuses.
It was never his intent to divide the church, but his efforts toward reform proved to be fruitless and eventually he was excommunicated. He continued to spread his teachings despite threats to his life.
Trinity Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WWW.wels.net) with sister congregations in Antigua (St. John’s Lutheran) and Grenada (Grace Lutheran). WELS is the third largest Lutheran church body in America with 1,278 churches and 380,728 baptized members. The WELS is a group of nearly 400,000 men, women, and children in nearly 1,300 congregations around the world united by a common faith in Christ’s saving love.
We are committed to a common calling—encouraging each other in our faith and sharing God’s gift of a Savior with the rest of the world.
The WELS maintains Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis., and two preparatory high schools: Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, Wis., and Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, Mich., for the education of our pastors, teachers, and staff ministers.
