The news spread like wildfire Monday afternoon that Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) was on fire, but it turned out to be fake news.
CCSS officials explained that the institution is the base of a regional camp and in preparation for the event, a fogging operation had commenced to rid the school of mosquitoes.
It appears that someone, seeing the cloud of smoke, raised an alarm about Monday afternoon and the Saint Lucia Fire Service responded with two fire trucks and an ambulance.
But there was no need for the services of the fire department.
However, the fake news that the school was on fire had by that time reached overseas with persons calling Saint Lucia from other Caribbean countries and the United States to find out what was going on.
