Saint Lucia celebrates Olympian Levern Spencer

PRESS RELEASE:-Day 15 of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is no ordinary day for Saint Lucians.

The island is in and has been in a heightened mode of anticipation and excitement from Wednesday, August 18, 2016, when Saint Lucia’s international high jump queen Levern Donaline Spencer qualified for the Women’s High Jump Finals with obvious ease, skill and style.

Officials and ordinary citizens alike are at the edges of their seats as an Olympic medal appears within reach for the nation.

Tonight, Saturday, August 20, 2016 a large crowd is expected to converge on the Derek Walcott Square in the heart of the city Castries to witness history unfold and to become part of an unforgettable experience. The “758 jumping with Levern” event begins at 6:00 p.m. The public will get the opportunity to witness Spencer’s golden moment Live at 7:30 p.m. local time.

Also note that Spencer is the first Saint Lucian Olympian to succeed to finals in the women’s High Jump(Track and Field) category. However, other nationals have blazed the trail to reach the Olympic Finals in the past.

The event was made possible through the initiative of key partners including the Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Youth and Sports, and will be powered by Spencer’s official sponsor, telecommunications giant Flow.

The Government of Saint Lucian encourages everyone to wear their national colours proudly as they come out to support Levern Spencer on her big night. However, amidst the euphoria they are calling for lawful behaviour so that a memorable time will be had by all present.

Officials hastened to add that whatever the outcome Saturday night, earning herself a coveted spot in the Finals of the Women’s High Jump at the most revered athletic competition in the world is reason enough for a national, celebratory event to mark Levern Spencer’s exceptional achievement.
