Saint Lucians living in neighbouring Martinique joined nationals of the French overseas territory in supporting a grand fundraising ball for Saint Lucia’s Marine Police.

The event, put on by the Saint Lucia Consulate, was held in Trois-Ilets, Martinique, on Friday.

The money raised is intended to help the Marine Police here equip themselves to better protect this country’s coasts, especially against drug traffickers.

Martinique 1ere, in reporting on the fundraising activity, said the law enforcement body needs radars that cost 25 000 US dollars.

It quoted the Consul General of Saint Lucia in Martinique, Johanna Salton, as urging those in attendance to assist the police.

” We must help the police who risk their lives every day to ensure the security of our borders,” Salton declared.
