The Government and People of Saint Lucia have extended deepest condolences to Barbados following the passing of the Right Honourable Owen Arthur, former Prime Minister of Barbados.
He was 70 years old.
Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister extended the condolences in a post Monday morning on his official Facebook page.
He observed that Arthur was Barbados’ longest serving Prime Minister, from 1994 to 2008.
The former Barbados leader died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, local reports say.
A Barbados government statement said the Island will begin three days of national mourning starting today, Monday, July 27, due to Arthur’s passing.
“Our heart goes out to his wife and daughters and all his family and friends and to the Government and People of Barbados,” Prime Minister Chastanet said.
