Saint Lucia and Guyana are exploring areas for cooperation in several fields, including food security and tourism.

The disclosure has come from Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, who disclosed on his official Facebook page this week that he has been engaging in talks with Guyana’s President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, since Saint Lucia’s current health and socio-economic reality calls for this country to expand its developmental partners.

“Preliminary engagement focused on collaboration in agriculture-food security, tourism, affordable and accessible healthcare and the youth economy,” the Saint Lucia Prime Minister said of his discussions with the Guyana President.

“I look forward to providing new opportunities to the people of Saint Lucia as we battle this global health and economic crisis,” Pierre stated.

The Prime Minister also disclosed that over the past few weeks, he has been meeting with his cabinet colleagues, government officials, donor agencies and  the people of Saint Lucia.

“This has all been in an effort to address the fiscal cliff which my administration, and you the people will have to carefully retreat from. We must stabilise this economy,” he asserted.

Pierre said he also met with the committee appointed to review the scope of financing for the Hewanorra International Airport (HIA) Redevelopment Project.

“There is so much that I have to share with you; not to burden you but to ensure that you understand where were are at and where we need to go as a country,” he explained.
