Saint Lucia Karatekas Return From Caribbean Championship

Press Release:- On Saturday March 16th 2019, Cobra Karate and Self Defense Martial Arts Dojo participated in the 6th edition of the Caribbean Open Karate Championship at the Pelliere Donatien Hall in Fort-de- France, Martinique.

A 28 member contingent of enthusiastic athletes, parents, and coaches from Cobra Karate participated in this well organized, high level karate tournament alongside athletes from Curacao, Guadeloupe, Corsica, French Guyana and host country Martinique.

This is the first overseas outing for the newly constituted Cobra Karate and Self Defense Dojo. Senseis Glen Simon and Anthony Leonce said exposure to karate competition at a high level was only one of the reasons for taking this young team to this tournament.

Also, networking with other instructors, coaches and officials to organize refereeing and training workshops in St. Lucia for the overall development of karate was another compelling reason.

Among the athletes who medaled at in their events was Allister Simon who won the 2nd place medal in boy’s Junior kata and Earl Gabriel who won two bronze medals in adult kata and kumite categories.

The instructors were pleased with the respect and warm reception received from the organizers and plan to make this Caribbean Open Karate Championship a fixture on their calendar of activities.


  1. Well done team Cobra Karate. Keep raising the bar. I hope more children, teens and adults take up the sport of karate as it can surely improve the level of discipline on island. More high level tournaments and opportunities to compete are need on island as well as increased cooperation among local karate dojos to raise the standard of martial arts on island.
