Authorities in Saint Lucia have lifted a suspension on applications to conduct fireworks displays.
The Ministry of Health, the Police and the Fire Service made the announcement in a joint statement Wednesday.
The authorities suspended fireworks applications during the New Year holiday period.
Officials said they took the decision over concern about overcrowding at fireworks displays and the spread of COVID-19.
The Government of Saint Lucia made the decision on advice from the Command Centre, Wednesday’s joint statement recalled.
According to the statement, the Fire Department will deal with applications for fireworks displays on a case by case basis.
It said the Government continues to call on all to observe the established protocols to mitigate against the spread of Covid-19.
The joint statement thanked the public and the private sector for their cooperation during the festive season and their understanding with regard to the decision to suspend fireworks displays for the New Year holiday period.
