Saint Lucia is monitoring two tropical waves, but according to the Island’s Meteorological Services, the weather systems currently show no potential for becoming cyclones over the next five days.

One of the waves is over the Western Tropical Atlantic.

And Meteorologist Vigil Saltibus told St Lucia Times that the Met Office expects it to affect Saint Lucia Sunday night into early Monday morning.

The system was moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/hr.

“Further East there’s another tropical wave that’s expected within the next day or two,” Saltibus disclosed.

She explained that every wave is different, but they usually bring some thunderstorm activity and possibly locally heavy showers at some locations.

“Some of them pass over us, and we don’t have any rainfall generated. Others pass, and you have rainfall and possibly some isolated thunderstorms,” Saltibus stated.

On the other hand, she revealed that some waves could be active, generating excessive rainfall.

“Most of the time the waves start within 24 hours,” the Meteorologist stated.

Regarding the approaching tropical wave, she indicated that it was moving ‘quite rapidly’.

As a result, Saltibus said forecasters do not expect the system to linger over the Island.

Nevertheless, she said they expect a chance of locally heavy showers within a short period.

“We don’t expect it Islandwide, but depending on where you are you may experience a few heavy showers now and then,” the Meteorological Services official told St Lucia Times.
