Prime Minister Allen Chastanet Monday begged his countrymen to take the approach of  Dorian seriously.

“I am pleading with all Saint Lucians to please take these warnings and alerts very seriously. Please ensure that your family, property and important documents are kept safe,” Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page.

“My prayers and thoughts are with all Saint Lucians and visitors to Saint Lucia at this time. May God continue to bless and protect our beautiful island,” the PM said.

Earlier in the day he announced that there would be a national shutdown of the country at 6.00 pm.

The announcement came after Chastanet chaired a meeting of  National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC).

He reminded members of the public that the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is the only official source for all communication.
The PM also asked members of the public to listen for official announcements for further information on the resumption of business following the storm.
