Saint Lucia police have arrested four males in the Babonneau area, following the discovery of illegal guns and ammunition, law enforcement officials have reported.
The officials disclosed that one .40 calibre pistol and one .357 revolver were seized, along with six rounds of ammunition as a result of ‘targetted patrols’ in the early hours of Saturday morning.
They told St Lucia Times that the two firearms were recovered in ‘unrelated incidents’.
The seizures come in the wake of a recent upsurge in gun violence, especially in the Saint Lucia capital – Castries.
Last month, Acting Police Commissioner Milton Desir announced that the government has approved some rewards for persons who give information leading to the recovery of illegal guns.
“That reward; it would range – depending on the information given and the type of firearm recovered; it may range from $3,500 to $5,000 where credible information is given and the firearms are recovered,” he revealed.
“Persons will remain anonymous and it is only from the Commissioner’s office that these persons would be dealt with,” Desir told MBC Prime.
