The Saint Lucia prison population has decreased, according to the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) Report for July 29, 2020 to December 10, 2020.

According to the report presented last week to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, the prison population fell by 21 inmates.

It represents a four percent reduction from the previous BCF facility report, dated July 29, 2020.

At that time the prison population was at 539.

According to the breakdown, this consisted of 502 male inmates, 352 of whom were on remand, plus 16 female inmates, three of whom were on remand.

Ninety-seven individuals were admitted to the BCF during the period under review.

The age group 26-35 comprised the largest segment of the prison population.
