Saint Lucia Records Two New COVID-Related Deaths

Saint Lucia on Saturday recorded two new COVID-19 related deaths and three new cases of the virus.

The Ministry of Health said the two deaths bring the total of those who have succumbed to 67.

“Death #66 is a 74 year old male from the Vieux-Fort district with underlying medical illness. Death #67 is a 94 year old female from the Soufriere district with underlying medical illnesses,” the statement disclosed.

In addition, it said the Ezra Long Laboratory  confirmed 3 new cases of COVID-19 from a batch of 105 samples.

The samples were taken during the period April 14, 2021 to April 16, 2021 and processed on April 16, 2021.

According to the Ministry of Health, the  newly diagnosed individuals were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19.

Therefore, in-keeping with the protocols, health care practitioners placed them in home quarantine pending test results.

Health officials also made arrangements to place the patients in isolation.

And the contact tracing process for the patients is currently underway.

The total number of active cases in country as of Saturday was 91.

But one of the active cases is requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

So far,  the total number of cases diagnosed in country is 4401.

As of  April 16, 2021 a total of 23,664 individuals had received the first dose of the
COVID-19 vaccine and 37 individuals have received the second dose.

The Ministry of Health is encouraging everyone interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine to pre-register.

They can do so via the online platform or at the nearest Community Wellness Centre.
