Saint Lucia Ruling Party Accuses Unions Of Playing Politics

Press Release:- The UWP United Workers Party wishes to express its deep concerns about the unfounded actions taken by the CSA and teachers’ unions during the past few days.

It is clear that negotiations between these with these parties have progressed in a spirit of good faith in an effort to resolve the triennium term ending on March 31, 2019.

There has been no breakdown in these negotiations and any statement to the contrary is totally unfounded and designed to create unnecessary upheaval and confusion in the rank and file of these unions.

It is clear there has been a concerted effort by some to peddle untruths to union members since the elections of June 6, 2016 which is not productive in any manner.

The government of Prime Minister Allen Chastanet is determined to resolve the issues being discussed despite the politics being played by the CSA and SLTU.

The blatantly untrue statements of CSA president Cyprian Montrope to the membership of that union, and Julian Monrose of the SLTU, can only be seen as an attempt to mislead and cause chaos in the country. In the fragile state of our economy their actions can be seen as nothing other than sabotage.

The United Workers Party encourages the Government of Saint Lucia to remain focused on its mandate of building a new and prosperous Saint Lucia for the benefit of all and not allow itself to be distracted by an increasingly desperate SLP Opposition which sees the wide scale implementation of projects, especially in their own constituencies. Some of these projects include:

-Expansion of the Sulphur Springs with the addition of three more baths

-The commencement of the road marking program to improve road safety

-Ground breaking for Hewanorra International Airport Redevelopment

-The Progress of the desilting of the John Compton Dam

-The successful completion of water projects in Dennery, Babonneau, Canaries, Millet and Micoud.

-The injection of $10 Million in one year to repair schools when under the SLP only $1 million was spent

-The commencement of the Rehabilitation of Edmund Forest Road which was affected since the passage of Hurricane Tomas in 2010

-The Signing for the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project

-The upgrading of Agricultural feeder roads in Soufriere, Micoud and Dennery

-The record breaking tourism arrivals

-The Upgrading of the Anse Ger Agro Processing Facilities for Chocolate production and the Honey Processing facility in Dennery

-The sourcing of vital equipment for our Fishermen with the aid of the Japanese

-The vast amount of constituency development projects with assistance from the Taiwanese, amongst several ongoing and soon to be launched projects.

The SLP, in their 5 year term was not able to deliver compared to the UWP being able to do so, less than three years into their term of office.

The UWP would like to remind the public that a United Workers Party has never proposed to cut Civil servants salaries by 5%, nor have they ever offered public workers a 0% increase for 3 consecutive years.

It has always been a UWP Administration which has listened to concerns and worked in the best interest of fellow Government workers and we look forward to an amicable resolution in the current negotiations.

The Prime Minister who is a very caring individual has St. Lucia at heart and has said time and time again that his Government will improve the lives of all St. Lucians, and has laments that certain sectors of the Public Service is under paid.

Our Party and its Government is not opposed to workers taking action if there are issues affecting them, but when Union leaders coming from the CSA and Teacher’s Union spread propaganda and lies to rile up their membership.

Because their leaders have a vested interest in supporting an opposition party, the members must take stock and not allow themselves be used as pawns in a battle for political power led by operatives of the St. Lucia Labour Party.

The United Workers Party takes this opportunity to reiterate its unequivocal support for the Allen Chastanet led government and supports fully its efforts at finalizing negotiations with the unions.

  1. All I’m seeing is renovations on existing sites and buildings. Where are the job creations?

You guys got to come better than that. Make a point and stop comparing the work of SLP to UWP attempt to want to do thing.
Something is always ground breaking and signed off on but nothing is happening

  2. why is the government taking credit for the additional pools at sulphur springs.wasnt that project undertaken by the soufriere regional development foundation? or has the foundation became another sub office of uwp operatives

  3. Hmm when Ms Mary was at the helm of CSA putting pressure on Kenny in 2013 ( her words via whatsapp) it wasn’t the union playing politics. Now the shoe is on the other foot it conveniently becomes political……hmm interesting.

  4. Stop with your nonsense. You should be arrested for incitement. What good will your suggestion do for the country?

  5. These négociations will last way after the next general elections; believe it or not! the unions are asleep!

  6. If ever there was an example of a press release written in desperation then I have just read it. The press release: (1) some of the sentences are badly structured (2) Its speaks of “unfounded actions”. Unfounded actions???? and “triennium term” triennium term????? (3) It claims that negotiations have progressed in good faith but fails to say that if that’s the case then what took the government so long from August,2018 to respond to the Unions. (4) It accuses Montrope and Monrose of pedalling lies when they are in fact saying what a known UWP supporter in the name of Travis Chicot of the PWA has been saying. (5) it takes issue with two Unions (CSA and SLTU) only even though the other Unions like the Fire Association, Nurses Association and the Police are claiming the same things. (6) Its intent appears to be about negotiations but is loaded with a list of government projects.(7) Devotes much time to praising the PM (expected from the party tool) (8) Directly contradicts a press release from the government itself yesterday that calls on both sides to act in good faith.
That press release I am sure can be used in any public relations course as a very very poor example of a press release. If this release reflects the state of the UWP and the government of St.Lucia then we are in a lot of trouble.

      • High five! The mere fact that they are listing all these projects is confirming that the economy is doing well and justifies the requests being made by the civil servants. Negotiations stopped since August because y’all expected us to take $1000.00 lump sum… With the high cost of groceries in chastanet supermarket that would be done before Christmas reach. Insulting!!! When he can just go to the supermarket and pick up groceries or his hotel for free! We don’t have that privilege. Go back with your $1000.00 brother. The thing thats petty cash for y’all. Chooops

The pronouncements made by the president’s of both unions are founded on documented evidence… Don’t try that… Come better than that.

The lies can’t hold for too long.
        People are not stupid anymore.

        ZOT PER!!!! CUZ NOU FARSHAY!!!

  7. The UWP should know that we don’t live in the past. They should shut up their critics by outperforming their predecessors. The poor working class will continue to confront tough economic times because of the extremely misguided policies of present government. Allan Chastanet has adopted Trickle Down Economics as a panacea for all of St. Lucia’s economic ills. This economic strategy was employed in the US and only resulted in the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I don’t expect the plight of the indigent to improve as the current administration is clueless. It is easy to blame others for your ineptness. Take responsibility and try to improve the economic conditions of the working class and the many unemployed persons.

  8. And still the new trained teachers can’t receive their much deserved ‘qualified teacher’s’ salary.
Lord hear us…Lord graciously hear us.

    • Are they doing any more work now that they are qualified? You teachers too happy. If I go to work as a bank teller with my degree or whatever other qualifications, I get the salary of a bank teller. If I prove my worth I may move up the ladder more quickly with my qualifications but I damn well know I signed on to be a teller. Gov’t should focus on paying for position and work rather than qualification. You have a bunch of people with garbage degrees just to say they have qualification. Stupid to f$#%. Then you have a bunch of intelligent unqualified people working their behinds off and they get pittance. The registry with the NICE programme is the perfect example. It’s about time they start dropping useless lazy public servants. Grow a pair Chastanet. The alternative will be all governments will be held hostage by

  9. I am glad to see that that despicable comment about what happened in NEW Zealand has been removed but I would hope it has been handed over to officials to investigate. As a tourist to your island, someone trying to incite such violence is not acceptable and very serious.

  10. This is the kind of CRAP of a “press release” from despicable political parties really riles me! It’s antagonistic, venomous, and shows how uncaring UWP is! UWP said they never “proposed 5% reduction of salaries nor give 0, 0, 0; however, we are in 2019 and the end of the triennium is near and 0 from y’all. So, in reality we get 0, 0, 0, and 0. The fourth 0 is from UWP.

Y’all bragging all over the place that the economy is growing and doing well even quoting figures of 3% and 5% GDP growth, don’t y’all think we deserve an adjustment of our salaries? Of course we do! But no, y’all want to propose a 2.5% reduction to bail y’all out! Bétiz! If y’all think y’all can intimidate people and incite people by saying this was a political stunt by the Unions, y’all can “weel and com again”. One thing I know, my pocket eh have no color!

  11. Give the people what they want, that’s what Kenny said and what did he do he try to take it back ooo 5 percent cut vat 15 percent

  12. If you can’t give me an increase I will take an acre of land. After all you gave Teo Akin. If foreigners can get for free. why can I not get what’s due to me. You are not for Saint Lucians. You polices are meant to hand over our inheritance to your foreign friends. I just have a simple question what are you getting in return.
