Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says this country is willing to help subsidise and support food for many Vincentian evacuees who will be arriving here.
Saint Lucia has committed to accommodating 300 evacuees in the first instance.
But Chastanet said depending on how that goes, this country will make a final decision on numbers.
He made the comments to a news conference on Friday.
The PM also explained that the numbers would depend on how locals respond to accommodating the visitors and their capacity for providing accommodation.
“We are certainly going to be willing to help subsidise and support the feeding of many of these Vincentians that are coming over – certainly they will have money of their own,” Chastanet, who is also Minister of Finance stated.
And he also disclosed that he has been working with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on putting together ‘some kind of stimulus programme’.
According to Chastanet, the programme would assist households that will be accommodating the evacuees.
Nevertheless, he said even that is a restricted amount of money.
“There isn’t an endless supply of resources to be able to do that,” the Saint Lucia Prime Minister pointed out.
