A Saint Lucian national was among 36 foreigners arrested in an immigration raid in New Providence, the Bahamas, last week, local reports say.
According to the Bahamas Department of Immigration, the arrests came as the Immigration Enforcement Team conducted ‘Operation Impact’ with the support of the South Western division of the police force and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
In addition to the Saint Lucian, the Immigration Department said 15 Haitians, 9 Jamaicans, 6 Venezuelans and 5 Guyanese were held.
They were transported to a detention centre for further processing.
Twenty females at a club were also taken into custody, it was reported.
Local authorities were quoted as asserting that they are committed to carrying out the mandates of all Law Enforcement agencies in combating illegal migration, immigration offences and criminal offences.
