A Saint Lucian inmate, Henry James, 44, is recovering in hospital in neighbouring Martinique after being attacked by two other inmates Monday, local reports say.
It was reported that James was stabbed multiple times by two young prisoners at Ducos penitentiary.
According to RCI.fm, the victim was serving a 20 year sentence for committing a homicide in 2016.
It was not clear what led up to the stabbing incident about 11.45 am in the prison.
But the matter is under investigation.
Well informed sources told St Lucia Times that James is expected to be released from hospital in Martinique within 10 days.
But the sources indicate that for his own safety, it is likely that he will not be returned to Ducos prison.
