A Martinique court has jailed a Saint Lucian national for 18 years for murder, Martinique media reports say.
The Assize Court found Jean-Luc Hippolyte guilty of the offence on Thursday.
Investigators had accused him of killing 21 year old Franklin Rodin.
According to RCI Martinique, on December 11, 2016, Jean-Luc Hippolyte was shooting at a group of young people in the middle of the day in the Bo Kannal district in Fort-de-France.
As a result, a bullet hit Rodin in the abdomen and he died.
RCI Martinique reported that Hippolyte apologised during the trial.
However, if he serves his sentence in Martinique, law enforcement will prohibit the Saint Lucian from holding a weapon for 15 years, the publication said.
It also indicated that the authorities will permanently ban him from Martinique.
