The Harding University (Searcy, Arkansas) men’s basketball team scored the first 16 points of the game on Tuesday and Saint Lucian junior Joel Polius scored a career-high 20 points in an 84-58 victory over Ecclesia at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The victory was Harding’s fourth straight at home and gave the Bisons a 4-3 record on the season. Ecclesia, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, lost its eighth straight and fell to 1-12. It was Harding’s 36th consecutive victory over a non-NCAA opponent.
Polius, a 6′ 8″ 210-lb junior transfer from Jacksonville College, and an alumnus of Vide Bouteille Secondary School in Saint Lucia, had seven points during Harding’s 16-0 run to open the game, including a three-point play on the Bisons’s first possession. He hit 9 of 11 shots and grabbed nine rebounds.
For Polius, it was his fifth game scoring in double figures, having played seven contests in total. He is averaging 11.4 points per game for the season, along with 7.4 rebounds. Against Ecclesia, he added a block and three steals.
Romio Harvey contributed 16 points, and Gabriel Divic made four of Harding’s seven 3-pointers for a season-high 12 points. Harding shot 50% from the field in the first half and led 41-24 at the break. Harding led by as many as 33 late.
