The 46th annual Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships will be held this weekend, 12-13 October in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The sharpest physiques and most outstanding posers in the region will convene at the Fiesta Theater at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel & Casino, to strut their stuff.
Saint Lucia’s five-member team left the island on Wednesday to represent the nation at this major international championship, held under the auspices of world governing body IFBB.
This occasion is also the main event for all the countries affiliated to the Central America & Caribbean Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (CACBBFF).
Saint Lucia’s team includes two athletes returning medallists from Mexico 2018. National bodybuilding champion Joneil Pelage, however, will try to build on his silver medal in the junior bodybuilding division, as he takes on the men’s bodybuilding category.
Velda John was third last year in women’s body fitness. She will go again, in hopes of taking a step or two up the medal rostrum.
Pelage and John will be joined by three men’s physique competitors: Jabari Brouet, Callum Samuel, and Zimran Leon.
In 2016, Saint Lucia’s Marina Jn Pierre became the island’s most recent regional bodybuilding champion, winning the CAC women’s title.
Last year, meanwhile, Saint Lucia’s Jacqueline Trim was elected as president of the Eastern Caribbean region and vice president of CAC, and herself and compatriot Monica Dudley were elected to serve on the CAC Anti-Doping Commission.
