The Independent Candidate for Choiseul- Saltibus has appealed to people to stay home and act responsibly in relation to COVID-19.
The appeal from Dr. Alphonsus St Rose came as the Ministry of Health on Thursday announced 13 new cases of COVID-19.
The authorities announced the newest cases against the backdrop of reports of ‘large parties’ being held on the Island.
“Reports have been received of large parties and other social gatherings during the past Christmas week and similar plans for the upcoming New Year celebrations,” according to a Ministry of Health statement.
It explained that the Ministry, through the reports from the contact tracing team, is noting the increased transmission of COVID-19.
Dr. St Rose appealed to everyone to pay attention to the COVID-19 protocols.
“People, stay home, act responsibly and do your part in assisting to curb the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,” St Rose admonished.
The former President of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) explained that COVID-19 kills not just lives, but livelihoods and economies as well.
“Let us all make the necessary adjustments and sacrifices, pushing our boundaries in that regard if only for the greater social and humanitarian good,” he declared in a New Year message.
The message touched on a number of other issues, including the need for strong governance, as well as addressing poverty and equality.
According to the Independent Candidate, sowing seeds of discord, tribal political partisanship and irrational party loyalty have malevolently consumed and destroyed over decades, “the hearts, the psyche and our souls as a united people.”
“Our loyalty must be to each other and to country,” St Rose declared.
“Together we are in this and together we must win it,” he stated.
St Rose asserted that that some things must transcend politics.
