A senior citizen is reported to have been injured in a fire at Canaries today, Saturday, March 11, 2017 that affected three buildings.
According to information, the Soufriere Fire station received a call at approximately 10:25 a.m, about a structural fire.
It is reported that upon arrival on the scene, fire personnel discovered one wooden structure engulfed in flames and requested help from Fire Service headquarters.
The sole occupant of the wooden building, identified as a woman who is believed to be in her eighties, sustained burns to her arms and legs and was transported via ambulance in a stable condition to the Victoria Hospital for medical treatment, emergency officials disclosed.
The wooden structure was completely destroyed.
According to emergency officials, two other structures of wood and wall housing eight persons in total were partially destroyed.
One of the two structures housed a bakery and grocery shop.
The Fire Service would like to commend the residents of Canaries for their quick action, which minimized the spread of the fire and averted a major catastrophe in their community.
