Senior Public Servants Undergo Training To Improve Efficiency

Senior Saint Lucia public servants are receiving training at the University of the West Indies Open Campus aimed at improving their efficiency.

According to a release from the Department of the Public Service, approximately forty senior public officers will undergo ‘comprehensive training’ with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and skills in project management.

Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries and other senior officers are attending the training sessions which began Tuesday.

“Currently there are a number of projects being undertaken in the Public Service and we saw the need to enhance the skills of our officers, in order for them to execute their tasks in a more efficient and effective manner,” says Betty Blanchard, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Department of the Public Service.

The training is being facilitated by Betty Combie, Facilitator of Project Management, UWI Open Campus.

According to Combie project management is a very important body of knowledge.

She said the students will first be involved in preparing project charters and project plans.

She disclosed  that they should then be able to analyze projects and decide what went wrong and what went right, which should make them more competent in managing projects.

The UWI Open Campus has extended an invitation to private organisations to benefit from the training, upon completion of which participants will receive a UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Certificate of Achievement.
