Saint Lucia police have announced that charges have been laid against several men for offences including murder, arson and conspiracy to commit robbery.
The charges were announced by police spokeswoman, Anne Joseph, Thursday at a news conference.
Joseph told reporters that between April and November last year a series of theft related matters were reported to the Southern division, especially Vieux Fort and Micoud stations.
She disclosed that as a result of the reports, the police mounted several successful operations.
The police spokeswoman revealed that Wayne Edward, also known as ‘Coo-Couche’ of Bisee, Castries, was charged for robbing a business owner of $14,000 cash along the Vieux Fort-Laborie Highway on 25th November 2019.
Hensbert Kevin Mathurin of Mon Repos ,Micoud was charged on 8th February, 2020, for aiding and abetting the commission of the same robbery.
In a separate matter, Vernil Dillon Charles alias ‘Coke’ of Cul de Sac was arrested in Micoud on November 27, 2019 for possession of an illegal firearm.
The matter is currently before the courts.
France Theodore was arrested on Thursday 19th December 2019 and charged for conspiracy to commit robbery in relation to a homicide at Mon Repos where Andrew Joseph was the victim.
Joseph, 76, was shot when armed bandits attacked the minimart he operated.
Theodore is on remand at Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF), it was disclosed.
The police spokeswoman told reporters that on Saturday 11th January 2020, Danzie Ferdinand of Lombard, Mon Repos was also arrested and charged for conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the Andrew Joseph homicide.
In addition, Wayne Edward of Bisee was held on 31st January 2020, and charged for causing the death of Andrew Joseph.
Eldridge Leon of Mon Repos aiding and abetting commission of robbery and in connection with the Andrew Joseph homicide.
Several charges were also laid in connection with in connection with a report of arson at the Empire 758 last year.
Hoodie-wearing individuals were caught on camera setting the entertainment venue on fire.
Klint Richard St Catherine of La Clery Castries was charged for conspiracy to commit arson in connection with that incident.
St Catherine was also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery of same the business owner who was relieved of $14,000.
In addition, he was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery of a vendor at the Vieux Fort fishing complex.
St Catherine is currently on remand at the BCF.
Abdallah Ragab Hussain Khmis Abozorik, a native of the United Arab Emirates residing at Black Bay Vieux Fort, was charged for conspiracy to commit arson on the Empire 758 building.
He is currently on bail for that matter.
Another individual who was charged for arson is Ernie John of La Tourney in Vieux Fort.
Anthony Mathurin of La Tourney Vieux Fort charged for robbery in relation to the report made by the fish vendor, while Eldridge Leon of Mon Repos was charged with aiding and abetting the commission of robbery and in connection with the Andrew Joseph homicide.
