Severin Moncherry has been appointed Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Security matters, multiple sources have confirmed.
The appointment took effect on Monday, according to the sources.
With Moncherry’s move, it means that Saint Lucia’s new Police Commissioner is Milton Desir.
Moncherry took up the position as the nation’s top cop on April 1, 2016.
He officially would have proceeded on pre-retirement leave from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) on April 22 this year.
And his official retirement date is June 8, 2021.
The 54 year old joined the RSLPF on January 16, 1985.
Desir on the other hand, has spent some 35 years in the force.
Desir had in September, 2020, proceeded on pre-retirement leave after serving as Deputy Commissioner.
But he was recalled to duty as Deputy Commissioner and subsequently appointed head of the force as of Monday.
