The victim of the fatal shooting At Gros Islet was out on bail for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition at the time of his death, police say.
Acting Assistant Police Commissioner with responsibility for Crime Management, George Nicholas, told reporters at a news conference Monday that Kareemm Mc Phee had been charged for the offences in 2018.
Nicholas said it was too early to make a determination as to whether the death of the 23 year old was a targeted killing.
“It is too early to make that determination but we are carrying out our investigation to establish a motive,” he told reporters.
According to law enforcement officials, Kareem Mc Phee’s body was discovered about 6.00 am Sunday at the Pigeon Island causeway.
The deceased was in the driver’s seat of a motor car, the officials told St Lucia Times.
“People heard shots about 2.00 am,” a senior law enforcement official disclosed.
Police say at least six rounds from a 9 mm calibre weapon were discharged.
