Press Release:– The Babonneau Constituency Group of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) condemns all acts of hostility and physical confrontation during this election campaign.
The events at Tet Chimen, Chassin on Sunday June 27th 2021, was totally unnecessary and
disappointing.
We have made it clear to all Saint Lucia Labour Party supporters to avoid all confrontation and to refrain from any kind of provocation.
Likewise, we appeal to the supporters of the United Workers Party to desist from displaying provocative and intimidatory behaviour during this campaign.
We note that on Wednesday June 16th, during our pan activity dubbed ‘Red Clinic’ at the Babonneau Constituency Office in Balata, a former Police Officer, now Bus Driver, dressed in a UWP shirt, disturbed our activity without cause or any prior provocation.
Thankfully, the Police provided assistance and caused him to desist and to leave the
scene.
It was by coincidence, that the Police were on hand to help quell the confrontation at
Chassin last Sunday.
We applaud the efforts of the Officers of the Babonneau Police station. We are grateful for their swift response, especially during this atypical campaign season.
Once again, we urge the supporters of all political parties to exercise restraint and to conduct themselves during this campaign in a peaceful, harmonious, respectful and
democratic manner.
We are making a further appeal to the leadership of the United Workers Party, asking them to set similar civic expectations of their members, in order to maintain the peace during this critical time.
