Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) leader, Philip J. Pierre, has paid tribute to the resilience of Saint Lucians in a message to mark national day, observed on Sunday.
Pierre posted the message on the SLP’s official Facebook page.
“Saint Lucians, this National Day comes at a very sobering time,” he observed.
The opposition leader noted that over the last four and a half years, this country’s heritage, sovereignty and constitution have been trampled upon.
“More recently our collective health and economy have been challenged. These and other events have left some Saint Lucians anxious and despondent,” the Castries East MP stated.
“There have been moments in our national history when our country was wounded. To counter, we mustered our strength, geared up for battle, and conquered those difficult times. We shared and prayed for another day. We were our brother’s and sister’s keeper – our koudmen society kept us moving forward,” Pierre asserted.
“This is why today National Day is one to remind us of our strength and the love that we share for Saint Lucia. Whatever your circumstances are, I would like to tell you that you are stronger than you could ever imagine,” he declared.
“Remember that it is our resilience as a people that has allowed us to survive; we have persevered. We have done it before and we will do it again!”
