Supporters of the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) have been warned against complacency as Saint Lucia awaits general elections.

“Don’t get complacent at all,” SLP leader Philip J. Pierre urged them.

He was addressing the official opening on Saturday of the party’s Soufriere-Fond St Jacques constituency office.

“Elections are only won on election day,” Pierre declared.

He encouraged party faithful to do their work well.

According to the Castries East MP, the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) has a very simple plan.

“Do nothing and near election – $200, $100, $150, $250, $300; that is the plan, to be able to buy your vote,” Pierre told his audience.

“They can buy your votes because the same contracts that they give, they over inflate these contracts by direct awards – by over inflating these contracts they can give you the change,” he stated.

“The millions of dollars of direct awards that you have no idea how much it costs, the change on these direct awards they give you in trinkets, but tell them to use that money instead to improve your lives after COVID.”
