Asserting that the five year term of the United Workers Party (UWP) government in office has been the hardest five years in Saint Lucia’s modern history, the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has urged Prime Minister Allen Chastanet to pack his bags and go.
“Today he has reached the end of his rope,” the party asserted.
And it said the time is up for Chastanet and his government.
The SLP made the declaration in a statement Sunday.
The statement coincided with the fifth anniversary of the 2016 general elections.
The UWP won the poll by a margin of 11-6.
“Today, we serve notice on the Allen Chastanet administration that its 5 year term in office has expired,” the SLP explained.
The opposition party declared that Saint Lucians have had enough of Chastanet and his oppressive bunch.
“Today, we finally break free from the shackles of colonialism that you have placed upon us in the last five years,” the SLP stated.
It said it is time to restore Saint Lucia’s democracy.
The SLP also said it is time bring back respect for the rule of law and hold politicians, public officials and other persons in leadership positions accountable for their misdeeds.
According to the SLP, Saint Lucia is in the unprecedented position of five years elapsing since the last general elections.
But the party observed that the next general elections have not been called.
Nevertheless, the SLP recalled that the PM and his party promised a fixed election date in their election manifesto.
“The people of Saint Lucia have had enough,” the SLP declared.
In this regard, the opposition party said Saint Lucians were issuing a notice of ‘expiry and disposal’ to Allen Chastanet and his ‘enablers’.
Among other things, the notice urged the naming of an election date.
And it called on the government to refrain from entering into any large procurements or long-term contracts before elections and stop trying to buy the elections with the people’s own money.
“June 6th 2021 is here, 5 years has come and Judgement Day is at hand!” The SLP declared.
