The Principal, staff and students of St. Mary’s College and the entire Samarian community in St. Lucia, the region and the world, mourn the passing of Mr. Michael Clive “Kiak” Mondesir who rang his final bell on the morning of 28th February 2018.

Mr. Mondesir was the first fully appointed St. Lucian Principal of St. Mary’s College having served from September 1980 to July 1998. This 18 year period makes him the longest serving Principal in the 128-year history of the school.

He attended St. Mary’s College as a student in the 50’s where he served as a school prefect and a leading sportsman, and he later joined the academic staff as a teacher of History in September 1960. After stints of overseas studies, he returned to the school in 1980 to begin his tenure as school Principal. An ardent sportsman himself, he oversaw the development of the inter-house sporting tournaments at St. Mary’s College and was responsible for the modernization of the school’s operations, such as the graduation ceremony and arrangements for the in-house and regional examinations. He truly exemplified the vibrant spirit of St. Mary’s College and earned the clear distinction of being called a bonafide Samarian.

Mr. Mondeisr leaves to mourn his wife and three daughters and is predeceased by his son Vince who was also a graduate of St. Mary’s College.
