St. Lucia Government rallies behind Leverne Spencer for Saturday’s Finals

PRESS RELEASE:-The Government of Saint Lucia joins the rest of the nation in expressing unabashed delight that Leverne Spencer has qualified for the Women’s High Jump Final in Rio, Brazil, on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

While many contenders struggled, seasoned Olympian, Leverne Spencer appeared to be in fine form as she cleared the qualifying height of 1.94m and previously 1.80m, 1.85m, 1.89 m and 1.92m all with the exemplary poise and confidence.

The Government encourages every Saint Lucian to cheer Spencer onto her first Olympic medal by reaching out with positive comments via social media platforms.

The women’s final is set to be televised at 7:30pm.

Meantime, the Government also congratulates Jeannelle Scheper who delivered a consistent performance clearing the bar at 1.80 m, 1.85 m and 1.89 m.

However, her attempt to clear the bar at 1.92m was not successful and she was unable to proceed to the finals.

The hope is that this promising and very talented athlete will set her sights on Tokyo 2020.
