Press Release:–  Over the past few months, we have seen how the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted the Education Sector causing continuous transitions from the physical classroom to the home environment.

As a student led organization, the SLNSC focuses on ensuring that all students are represented and all issues being faced by the student populace is addressed accordingly.

As of October 16th,the nation was informed that one of our very own students from the
Castries Comprehensive Secondary School tested positive for the Corona Virus and as such
there has been a temporary shut down of all of our learning institutions (Seven day closure for all institutions and Fourteen days for the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School).

This is a major hurdle in the academic journey for our students who commenced the academic year through the usual face to face teaching modality.

For many of our students this abrupt transition to distant learning in addition to the anxiety associated with the threat of the virus serves as a reminder of the initial impact of COVID-19 on our Education System and the overall wellbeing of students.

The Saint Lucia National Students’ Council realizes that it is essential at this point to continue to encourage students to remain safe and calm while ensuring that their education still remains a priority.

To the students of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, we recognize that this period can be stressful for you and your families hence we encourage you to monitor your health and follow the necessary health protocols.

Our council also urges students across Saint Lucia to remain vigilant and also practice all health and safety measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The SLNSC will work closely with the relevant stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education and the Saint Lucia Teachers Union to ensure that the school term can progress seamlessly.

The Saint Lucia National Students’ Council will continue to serve as outlet for students to share their views and concerns on the current health crisis. We are making available our social media platforms to facilitate regular interactions with the student populace.
