Taiwan Supports Saint Lucia Fire Victims

The government of Taiwan has come to the assistance of the victims of  the devastating New Year’s day fire at Rose Hill, Castries.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Saint Lucia, Douglas C.T. Shen, made a donation on March 5 to help support the affected families.

According to the Government Information Service (GIS), the donation came through an arrangement by External Affairs Minister, Sarah Flood-Beaubrun.

Flood-Beaubrun is also the MP for Castries Central.

The GIS quoted Ambassador Shen as saying that  when he heard about the blaze, he was shocked and deeply saddened, himself being once the victim of such tragic accident.

It said Ambassador Shen encouraged the afflicted families to turn sorrow into strength and rebuild their homes at the soonest.

Seven households were left without shelter in the early morning New Year’s day fire at Rose Hill.

According to reports from the community, the fire  occurred shortly after midnight and spread so rapidly that most victims were able to flee with only the clothes they were wearing at the time.
