Trailer truck driver, Dylan Sieon of Vieux Fort, is alive to tell the tale of a freak accident in Castries on Sunday afternoon when a crane collapsed while lowering a huge tank onto his vehicle.

“I came to Castries by Du Boulay’s (Bottling Company) to do a job and when the crane was lifting up a tank, I was about to go on the truck but when I see the tank was coming down I just run away,” Sieon told St Lucia Times.

He explained that once the tank had been placed on his trailer truck, he would have taken it to Vieux Fort.

The Vieux Fort resident gave credit to God for his narrow escape.

“This morning before I go to work I prayed to God – tell God to guide me, protect me and check what that happen. Thank you so much God,” he declared.

In addition to damaging Sieon’s truck, the crane accident downed LUCELEC power lines, transformers and poles, temporarily cutting off power to several residents at Hospital Road, Faux A Chaux, Manoel Street, Lower Morne Road and other areas.

The Saint Lucia Fire Service said the incident occurred about 2.30 pm.

And according to a fire service official, it occurred when the road under the crane became unstable.
