Theology conference for Saint Lucia

A major conference on Caribbean Theology will be held at the Cardinal Kelvin Felix Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, Marisule, from June 12-18, 2016.

Under the theme  “Inculturation and Indigenization: Becoming who we are” the 18th Conference on Catholic Theology in the Caribbean Today will explore how can  Caribbean people achieve their full human potential in the midst of the challenges facing their societies today, and what role can Christianity play?

According to Msgr. Patrick Anthony, the local conference coordinator, participants will include professional theologians, as well as pastors, parish priests, catechists and pastoral workers from the region and from the United States. Archbishop Joseph Harris of Trinidad & Tobago, a founding member of the conference, will represent the Catholic Bishops of the Antilles.

Thirteen papers will be delivered during the conference by such speakers as Dr. Gerald Boodoo (Duquesne University Center for African Studies), Dr. Anna Perkins (UWI, Mona), and Dr. Everard Johnston (former Dean, St. John Vianney and Uganda Martyrs Theological Institute).

 The keynote address on the conference theme will be delivered by speaker  Dr. Alison McLetchie,  Assistant Professor at Claflin University.

A number of PhD students will also share ongoing research on issues of inculturation, among them Sr. Rose Leon SJC (Universite Antilles Guyane), Ms. Adanna James (Louvain University), Mr. Chase Hyder who is doing research among the Kalinago in Dominica; and Rev. Omar Archer (UWI, Mona) an ordained Baptist minister from the Bahamas, who will present on “We rushing through the crowd: Doing theology in a Bahamian context”.
