Former leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM), Therold Prudent has lamented that some people are intolerable of an individual’s right to choose.
Prudent was responding Thursday night to criticism that he had engaged in a political ‘flip flop’ by joining the ruling United Workers Party (UWP).
“There are persons in this country who know nothing about you,” he stated.
“But because of politics, they brand you in whatever way they want to brand you,” he declared during an appearance Thursday night on Talk with Rick Wayne.
But the former LPM leader described himself as having always been ‘forward minded.’
“I’ve always been progressive,” Prudent asserted.
Appearing alongside Gros Islet MP, Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute, Prudent said he has always stood for what is in the interest of Gros Islet and Saint Lucia.
“And if it means that the decisions I make will not sit well with others because of their political biases, I am never bothered by that,” he explained.
The former LPM leader said that he has been involved in politics for a lifetime.
“I’ve got a back of steel, so I’m not bothered at all by what anyone says,” he told programme host, Rick Wayne.
During the DBS Television show, the late Sir John Compton and the late George Odlum were mentioned as being among noted Saint Lucian politicians who had changed political allegiances during their lifetime.
