The former leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM) has officially joined the ruling United Workers Party (UWP).

Therold Prudent became an official member of the UWP last week declaring that he had returned home and would work with Gros Islet MP, Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute to win the seat.

He disclosed that his mother was a founding member of the party.

And he says Prime Minister Allen Chastanet deserves a second term to continue the work he started.

“I feel continuity is good, especially in the midst of a pandemic,” Prudent told St Lucia Times.

He observed that the pandemic had made it difficult for governments throughout the world.

Nevertheless, Prudent expressed the view that the UWP will do very well at the next elections.

“You have to look at what’s happening on the ground – not the noise, not the beating of pans and pots. You should be mindful of the windchimes and try to figure out in what direction the political winds are blowing,” the former LMP leader stated.

He explained that typically, UWP supporters have never been rowdy people.

In this regard, Prudent described ruling party supporters as quiet, peaceful voters.

“They were the ones who supported John Compton for 30 years, never making noise throughout all the chaos of George Odlum, the chaos of the labour party in the seventies and the leadership struggle and the destruction that they brought to the country,” he noted.

“And so, I am not perturbed that UWPs don’t make much noise when it comes to elections. All they do is vote,” Prudent asserted.

According to Prudent, there’s nothing that the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) can offer.

He said the history of the SLP is militancy, agitation and rabble rousing.

Prudent also described the party as being a noise maker and a bully of Saint Lucians who do not agree with its principles and philosophy.

On the other hand, he said UWP supporters do not speak much.

“They just vote,” Prudent told St Lucia Times.

He declared that he is feeling the momentum.

Prudent declared that the SLP has been losing ground in some constituencies, including party leader Philip J. Pierre’s  Castries East constituency.

“For the last two to three political cycles, you’ve seen his numbers continue to drop,” he noted.

While admitting that Pierre has been winning, Prudent said the SLP leader has not been winning convincingly.

He also said Dr. Kenny Anthony’s numbers in Vieux Fort South have dropped drastically.
