T&T: Cop raped on election day

Trinidad Express:-A Police officer was abducted and raped by a taxi driver in the early hours of Monday, after leaving her home to head to a polling station where she was assigned to provide security.

An attempt was made to kill the officer, who reportedly escaped when the rapist’s gun misfired.

The attack happened in south Trinidad at around 3a.m on the day some citizens went to the polls to vote for their local government representatives.

The woman told investigators that she got into a taxi to head to the polling station. She was the only passenger. The driver went to a service station for fuel then began driving in direction away from the polling station address.

The officer, a Special Reserve Police, was taken to an area and raped at gunpoint.

She told investigators that she fought the man who fired two shots at her as she ran. The bullets missed her, policer were told, and the gun then apparently misfired.

The search is on this morning for the suspect.
