Trinidad Guardian:- Supplemental Police uncovered and removed a fake ATM panelling device that was hiding a cellphone used to capture images of customers’ pin numbers at Scotiabank’s Freeport ATM unit.
In a 58-second long video shared on social media late on Thursday night, an officer can be seen reaching into the alcove of the ATM and removing the fake panelling.
As he removes it, a Samsung cellphone is seen attached to the inside of the fake panel and takes a photo of the screen.
The officer, who was not identified, said, “This is the device located at Freeport ATM. Bravo One was contacted, instructions were given to take photos and to take out the device.”
He continued to explain that the scammers had used the panelling to mimic the ATM’s vent in order to carry out their scam.
“As you can see, they duplicated the vent of the ATM and this is what the original ATM supposed to look like,” he said as he gestured to the machine.
