Trinidad Express:– HIGH Court judge Justice Kevin Ramcharan has entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Justice Ramcharan entered the plea when he made a reappearance in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court yesterday, accused of committing the criminal offence in May.
It was the judge’s third court appearance since he was arrested and charged after he allegedly failed a breathalyser test following a road traffic accident. Ramcharan appeared before Magistrate Duane Murray in the Sixth Court.
During the first two court appearances, the charge was not read.
Ramcharan is accused of driving his Range Rover vehicle on the evening of May 26, along Saddle Road, Maraval, at a time when his blood alcohol level was in excess of the legal limit.
The legal limit for driving a vehicle 35 microgrammes per every 100 millilitres of breath. According to the State, Ramcharan had a blood alcohol level of 55 microgrammes.
He will next appear in court on October 18.
