T&T: Suspended Superintendent shot dead

Trinidad Guardian:- A senior policeman who was on supension was fatally shot at his business place at Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, yesterday.

Senior Supt Edward Castillo died at the scene while a woman who was also in the business place was shot in the leg.

Investigators were last night trying to determine whether the gunmen had intended to rob Castillo or kill him.

At around 6 pm, two men went to business place, Aiden’s Mini Mart and Meat Shop and asked for an energy drink. When Castillo turned to get the drink he was shot several times.

Two years ago, Castillo appeared before in the San Fernando Magistrates Court charged with four offences, including three charges of indecent assault.

He was suspended in 2012 and had over 40 years service.

Chaguanas police and homicide detectives are investigating.

    Though fact-less, something may have happened, but except to ‘…settle a personal score’ and to perpetrate evil, the accusers could never have been ‘…professionally trained female police officers,’ not knowing what to do in the circumstances. From professional experience, such is unthinkable.

    They could not be said to have ‘…Fit the Vision of the Police Service,’ its principles and its disciplinary procedures.’

    Now that the accused is dead, they might now be seen more as a ‘…liability than asset’ to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

    Reasonable inferences might be drawn that he may have been ‘…Tricked and Framed’ by his subordinates.

    Given the dates of these charges, it might be time for;

    (i) …the Criminal Investigations Department (CID); and

    (ii) …the Professional Standards Bureau,’ to commence ‘…immediate investigations,’ focusing on the
    accusers and their associates.’

    Even the Magistrate before whom the accused first appeared, was said to have been ‘…perplexed about the dates’ on the Complaints that ranged from ‘…2003: …2005: …2008 & 2010’ [Trinidad Guardian: November 18, 2018].

    Only, ‘…Time Will Tell’ [1969: Jimmy Cliff].
