Two people were injured when a police vehicle hit a parked goods delivery truck at Pavee, Castries about 10:36 a.m. on Friday, eyewitnesses say.
“I noticed a police vehicle coming from the top of the hill – the officers fly out and it came straight down the hill and it went straight into a truck,” a woman on the scene said.
She disclosed that the truck had moments earlier, delivered goods to a shop.
According to her, the male driver of the truck and a female passenger who were inside the vehicle at the time sustained injuries.
Both were trapped and had to be extricated by the use of specialised Saint Lucia Fire Service equipment.
“The gentleman got hurt. When I checked him he told me his shoulder and his leg, and the lady was very traumatised,” the eyewitness told St Lucia Times.
In regard to the two police officers involved, she said she noticed that one of them was limping but she was not sure what his injuries were.
The woman expressed the view that the braking system on the police vehicle had malfunctioned.
According to information, an ambulance which was summoned to the scene took the two people who were in the goods delivery truck to hospital.
There are no further details at this time.
