Two Senior Citizens Dead In Castries Fire

Two senior citizens are dead following a devastating early morning Castries fire Saturday, emergency officials say.

The deceased, a male and a female,  were in the house that was on fire, it was reported.

Their bodies were removed after the fire from the building which measured some 12 ft X 20 ft.

The blaze occurred after midnight in Trou Rouge, Marchand, a short distance away from the bridge, according to the officials.

Fire Services officials told St Lucia Times that the fire started in a wooden building.

They explained that the building was fully engulfed by the time two fire trucks arrived on the scene.

Reports indicate that the firefighters faced an uphill battle in preventing the flames from spreading to other structures.

But another house adjacent to the burning building was affected by the original blaze.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and Castries East MP, Philip J. Pierre, were on the scene.

Pierre, who is leader of the opposition, has extended condolences to the families of the bereaved.

  1. I live close by. I heard a huge explosion then screams…sounded like a gas tank exploding. The fireworks started immediately afterwards so I thought that was what I heard. Then I saw the fire….sad…very sad

      • Fifteen minutes is enough time for a fire to do untold damage and destruction. Especially as it relates to wooden structures. Not quite sure you know what you speak of.

  2. yes in minutes can cause more damage for example the new years eve fire ,the fire fighters when to, to rough frist and had to revise drove through town to go pavee and I left work with my baby only to find out that am on a bus behind the fire truck, after they still took so long to set up ,we lose everything but such is life sorry this fire took lives

  3. IN THAT AREA NO HOUSE ON FIRE STAND A CHANCE, FIRE TRUCK CAN’T MOVE AROUND THERE. NO SPACE I USE TO LIVE IN LUCIA AND THE HOUSES WERE ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, ITS 35 YEARS I LEFT, IMAGINE NOW. DO SAD FOR THE OCCUPANTS. R.I.P.
