Two shootings and five physical assaults were among incidents that prompted responses from the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) for the weekend of April 9 to 12.

That’s according to SLFS spokeswoman, Stacy Joseph.

She said emergency personnel also recorded calls relating to nine motor vehicle incidents and four fires.

Joseph disclosed that the Dennery Fire Station responded about 4.35 pm to a shooting on Friday.

She said emergency personnel found one 40 plus male lying face down on the ground.

But a rapid assessment revealed that the individual had no vital signs.

“Due to the obvious signs of death, the body and the scene were left in the care of the police,” Joseph explained.

Police identified the deceased as  Lester Gaston.

And they confirmed that an officer had shot him at Gadette, Dennery.

Regarding the other shooting incident, Joseph said emergency personnel from the Gros Islet fire station responded about 3.27 pm on Sunday.

According to Joseph, the responders found one male lying on his back on the ground.

A medical doctor later pronounced the patient, whom police identified as Ricky Maynard alias ‘Bug’, dead.

For the weekend under review, the SLFS said it recorded 88 ambulance calls.
