Upcoming Sports Performance Camp

It’s the time of year where classes wind down, schools close, and graduations commence. With the heights of carnival all around, many are ready for reveling; yet some parents have that age old question on their mind: What will I do with my children for the summer?

The long break until school restarts in September leaves many parents in a quandary of what to do. With the concerns of today’s ill society, many don’t want their kids to be left “hanging on the block”. Yet, it seems each year there are fewer and fewer opportunities to engage school age children. What’s to be done?

Sports Academy – St Lucia has steadily over the last 3 years offered a Sports Performance camp which is second to none. As a non-profit charitable trust, their mission is “Sports for ALL”. The goal is to utilize a variety of sporting activities to develop life skills in the youth that would carry out into adult life. The skills set off self confidence, determination, and motivation to achieve no matter the circumstance.

Year after year Sports Performance camp has not only grown in participants, but it has grown in activities. Children from ages 7 to 17 gather from all areas of St Lucia, all sects of society to participate in daily activities. Thanks to partnership with the Ministry of Education, the 2016 camp will be hosted at Gros Islet Primary School from July 11 through August 5. Not only will it include its core sports – Swimming, Golf, Tennis, Martial Arts – but it also will include Cricket, Football, Basketball, Squash. This isn’t all though! Knowing well-rounded children grow into beneficial members of society, Sports Academy has included yoga, salsa fit, arts, musical talent, French and Spanish lessons to its list of experiences for the 4 weeks.

Special events such as snuba/scuba, kayaking, wind surfing, horseback riding, sailing, and hiking top off the list. But we would be amiss if it wasn’t mentioned there will be discussions on food and nutrition with support from Felly Belly. Through partnership with LeSport – The Body Holiday there will be motivational speakers such as Olympian Jamie Baulch and former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss. And though currently playing matches in the CPL, the St Lucia Zouks are looking to fit some time in with the youth.

If you are interested in more information regarding the camp you can contact Sports Academy – St Lucia via email [email protected] or via phone 460-8894 or 285-8894. You can also check them out on Facebook at Sports Academy – St.Lucia.
