USA: Prankster told cops he shot father ‘in the head,’

New York Daily News:-A “prankster” with blood on his hands spun a disturbing and fictional tale to police that he had shot his father and was holding his mother and younger brother hostage on Thursday night, Kansas authorities said.

Investigators believe that the call, which led cops to fatally shoot unsuspecting Wichita resident Andrew Finch, was placed in a deliberate attempt of “swatting” — a hoax in which a person calls the police with a fake story to get a SWAT team to descend on an address.

The caller, identified by Los Angeles police as 25-year-old Tyler Barriss, sounded eerily calm when he called 911 and told a dispatcher that his parents had gotten into a fight.

“They were arguing and I shot him in the head and he’s not breathing anymore,” Barriss told the dispatcher, according to a recording made public by the Wichita police department.

“I’m just pointing the gun at them, making sure that they stay in the closet, my mom and my little brother,” Barriss responded, adding that the shooting was “an accident.”

The lying caller then threatened to burn his house down.

“I might just pour gasoline all over the house; I might just set it on fire,” he said.

The dispatcher pleaded with Barriss to not light anything on fire and urged him to stay on the line. Within minutes, Barriss hung up and cops rushed to Finch’s home.

The hoax caller was reportedly under the impression that cops would respond to the house of a person he had gotten into a heated online argument with over a $1 or $2 Call of Duty wager.

Instead, cops responded to Finch’s house. Finch, who was unarmed, was shot to death after police say he appeared to have reached for something in his waistband.

According to Twitter chatter, the targeted Call of Duty gamer gave Barriss a fake address, which turned out to be Finch’s.

“Someone tried to swat me and got an innocent man killed,” a since-deleted tweet from the gamer reads.
